WHEN we were members of the same class at Wigram in the early 1940's, Stan "Spud" Murphy and I used to fly together in big old fashioned biplanes that went under the rather delicate name of "Fairey Gordons". Flying duties were interchangeable. Spud taking over as pilot in the front cockpit while I would act as navigator in the rear.
